The Hot Cross Lamb Burger is the latest social media food sensation as a poll reveals UK households are planning adventurous alternatives to the easter roast.

More than 50% of families are planning to host Easter lunch outside, following the announcement that two households will be allowed to meet outdoors from next week, a study by Sainsbury’s has found.

Of those polled, 82% have confirmed they will go ahead with outdoor plans come rain or shine, which explains why Argos outdoor furniture sales are up 270% from last month, with searches for gazebos up 438% and garden parasols up 342%.

A further 75% of respondents revealed Easter will be the first time they’ve seen their loved ones this year.

More than half of households surveyed confirmed they will be ditching the Easter lamb roast dinner. Whilst 30% would rather focus their time on socialising with friends.

A third (33%) of the country claimed they would opt for a barbecue this Easter, with the Hot Cross Lamb Burger the latest food trend to grace social media.

The dish first created by TikTok chef, PoppyCooks for her 1.4 million followers, is a sweet and salty sensation, combining a pre-roasted Welsh Hill half leg of lamb sandwiched between a toasted hot cross bun covered in a mint glaze and a roast potato topping.

Claire Hughes, director of Product & Innovation at Sainsbury’s, said: “With lots of our customers opting to enjoy their Easter weekend outdoors with families and friends, we’re thrilled to see how innovative many have been with recipe creations ahead of the celebrations.”

These are the five most popular meal options for Easter Sunday in place of the traditional lamb roast include:
